Why would you attend AT & T’s Early Neighborhood Notification Meeting, May 21, at Warehouse 21 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM?

Because Burger King, located at the corner of West Alameda and St. Francis, has applied to lease to a 64 foot cell phone tower. The only problem with that is that just a few strides away is the Gonzales Community School, housing K through 8th grades.

FCC specialist Attorney Andrew Campanelli, who represented the “Moms of Merrick” and groups in other communities opposing cell towers, says safety questions persist about cell phone towers, especially near schools.

He said in Bayville, five children who attended school 50 feet from cell antennas on a water tower have been diagnosed with cancer or leukemia and three have died….

“Placing cell towers on school property unnecessarily places our children in potential danger and could even be viewed as experimenting with our children’s health. I am strongly committed to stopping these efforts to put cell phone towers on school property.”

Drenner, however, has a background in radiation physics and said she believes the school system didn’t act with necessary caution approving the deal. She has a bachelor’s of science in radiation physics from West Virginia State University and a master’s and a doctorate in environmental science. She also has worked as a radiation safety officer in California and calculated radiation exposure at a uranium enrichment facility in Ohio.

“The current medical literature raises credible questions about genetic and cellular effects, hormonal effects, male fertility, blood/brain barrier damage and increased risk of certain types of cancers from RF or ELF levels similar to those emitted from “smart meters”.

Children are placed at particular risk for altered brain development, and impaired learning and behavior…

Existing safety limits for pulsed RF were termed “not protective of public health” by the Radiofrequency Interagency Working Group (a federal interagency working group including the FDA, FCC, OSHA, the EPA and others). Hence, we call for:

• An immediate moratorium on “smart meter” installation until these serious public health issues are resolved. Continuing with their installation would be extremely irresponsible.

• Modify the revised proposed decision to include hearings on health impact in the second proceedings, along with cost evaluation and community wide opt-out.

• Provide immediate relief to those requesting it and restore the analog meters.”

Through GIS, the researcher noted that the South-Central region of Belo Horizonte has the highest concentration of antennas and the highest rate of cumulative incidence of cancer deaths. They then compared exposure levels during pregnancy to rates of asthma and found that children whose mothers had the highest exposure levels — within the top 10 percent of women in the study — were 3.5 times more likely to develop asthma than those who were in the bottom 10 percent.

“The message is EMF is bad,” Dr. Li said. “You should avoid EMF as much as you can, especially during pregnancy.”

The risk for children whose exposure was somewhere in the middle — between 10 percent and 90 percent — was 75 percent higher than for those in the lowest exposure group.

Neurology & Neurophysiology Journal, 12/24/11:…The study raises very serious concerns about the potential for a large increase in brain cancer incidence, resulting from widespread mobile phone use.

These preliminary findings suggest that we should prepare for about a doubled brain cancer incidence rate and possibly as high as 25 times the incidence we have today. One result of such a worldwide increase in brain cancers would be a dramatic shortage of neurosurgeons leading to increased mortality.

Any statement about harmless cell phones based on only 5-10 years of years of use has no scientific basis due to the long latency times involved.
