S.O.S. SANTA FE: THE BACK STORY ON CELL TOWERS

S.O.S. SANTA FE: THE BACK STORY ON CELL TOWERS

Why would you attend AT & T’s Early Neighborhood Notification Meeting, May 21, at Warehouse 21 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM?

Because Burger King, located at the corner of West Alameda and St. Francis, has applied to lease to a 64 foot cell phone tower. The only problem with that is that just a few strides away is the Gonzales Community School, housing K through 8th grades.

FCC specialist Attorney Andrew Campanelli, who represented the “Moms of Merrick” and groups in other communities opposing cell towers, says safety questions persist about cell phone towers, especially near schools.

He said in Bayville, five children who attended school 50 feet from cell antennas on a water tower have been diagnosed with cancer or leukemia and three have died….

NEW FEDERAL LAW SUPERSEDES LOCAL “PROTECTIVE” TELECOM ORDINANCES

NEW FEDERAL LAW SUPERSEDES LOCAL “PROTECTIVE” TELECOM ORDINANCES

As you may know, our Santa Fe City Council, our Assistant City Attorney, Kelly A. Brannan, our Presidents of the Neighborhood Associations, and FCC Specialist Andrew Campanelli, provided by DOCTORS W.A.R. N. a group of ninety-plus medical doctors and healthcare professionals concerned by the research on microwave radiation dangers, all worked hard to pass a more protective TeleCom Ordinance November 25, 2011.

Across the US, such groups are alarmed that when Obama signed the the Middle Class Tax Relief & Job Creation Act, it contained a sneaky clause #6409 empowering cellphone companies to ramp up radiation/power levels beyond local ordinance levels and to rent out space on towers to multiple antennas upon all pre-existing wireless installations (antennas or towers)–and local community governments cannot stop it.

INDIA: Town seals 298 cell towers citing health hazards

The MCG wants the mobile operators to relocate these towers from residential areas to commercial locations. “It’s a well known fact that the radiation from these towers causes deadly diseases like cancer and we want to ensure the safety of our residents. There are hundreds of mobile towers in residential areas and in case somebody gets affected by this radiation everybody will blame us for it,” said mayor Vimal Yadav.

India: Govt to study cell phone tower radiation on birds

“They should set up a separate task force to monitor the radiation impacts these towers have,” she said.
“I suggest that they not only have a corporate social responsibility but also a corporate social and environment responsibility. We need to know what the company has done to the environment. The companies should disclose this on the internet so that there is transparency,” she added.

WASHINGTON POST: The Grid System Vulnerable to Cyberattacks, Gov’t Auditors Say

A rush by the Energy Department to use stimulus money to modernize the country’s power grid has left the system vulnerable to cyberattacks, the agency’s internal watchdog found.

Inspector General Gregory H. Friedman found “shortcomings” in the cybersecurity plans of more than a third of the utility companies that got federal funding for “smart grid” projects — from incomplete strategies to prevent an attack to vague steps for stopping one if it started.

Of 99 grants awarded to utilities — ranging from $400,000 to $200 million — 36 recipients did not take all the required security steps to ward off a cyberattack, auditors found. Even though Energy Department officials told the utilities to update their plans, many did not.

UK: Radiation & Privacy Concerns Block Forcing SmartMeters On Brits

In America, utility companies have been hit with multi-million dollar class action lawsuits from people who have had the devices installed in their homes.

The move is a victory for campaign groups and backbench MPs, who raised concerns with ministers that the devices emit electromagnetic radiation 24 hours a day and cannot be turned off.

Delhi to gauge mobile radiation impact on health

“We will launch a study to gauge whether there is any adverse effect of radiation on health of people,” the officials said adding electromagnetic radiation takes place not only from mobile towers but from a number of other equipment.

UK: Edible Microchip Tracking Device

We noted that Novartis AG, the drug company that first went public with its intentions to license the technology, did not even plan to conduct clinical trials on the technology to prove its safety and efficacy…[Two-way microchips, such as Smart Meters and cell phones, emit microwave radiation and have been tied to health problems.]

“Security and health are what brought me into the debate,” said Lisa Rooney, Board Member of Naperville Smart Meter Awareness. “What has kept me in the debate has been a lot more to do with freedom of choice and the constitutional issues.”
