INDIA: Town seals 298 cell towers citing health hazards

The MCG wants the mobile operators to relocate these towers from residential areas to commercial locations. “It’s a well known fact that the radiation from these towers causes deadly diseases like cancer and we want to ensure the safety of our residents. There are hundreds of mobile towers in residential areas and in case somebody gets affected by this radiation everybody will blame us for it,” said mayor Vimal Yadav.

National Physicians Board Opposes Smart Meters Due to Health Threats

National Physicians Board Opposes Smart Meters Due to Health Threats

“The current medical literature raises credible questions about genetic and cellular effects, hormonal effects, male fertility, blood/brain barrier damage and increased risk of certain types of cancers from RF or ELF levels similar to those emitted from “smart meters”.

Children are placed at particular risk for altered brain development, and impaired learning and behavior…

Existing safety limits for pulsed RF were termed “not protective of public health” by the Radiofrequency Interagency Working Group (a federal interagency working group including the FDA, FCC, OSHA, the EPA and others). Hence, we call for:

• An immediate moratorium on “smart meter” installation until these serious public health issues are resolved. Continuing with their installation would be extremely irresponsible.

• Modify the revised proposed decision to include hearings on health impact in the second proceedings, along with cost evaluation and community wide opt-out.

• Provide immediate relief to those requesting it and restore the analog meters.”

As far as mobile towers are concerned they recommended radiation norms which are ten times as strict as the existing ones (US standards) —

Pilot said, “We are not going to compromise with radiation limits since it has health-related concerns. The department of telecommunications set up an Inter Ministerial Group in August, 2010, to evaluate the evidence, revisit radiation guidelines for mobile towers and adopt guidelines for radiation emission by cell phones. This group has recommended radiation limits more stringent than that of the United Nations.”

Menlo Park nixes T-Mobile cell tower in park

City Manager Glen Rojas said aesthetics and safety were the main concerns about allowing an antenna in park within a residential area.

“We talked at the department head level about the pros and cons of putting cell towers in parks, and felt that was not an appropriate place to put it,” Mr. Rojas said.

Mr. Hart sees Menlo Park’s decision as a sign of things to come. “As residents and elected officials become more aware of the health threat posed by wireless radiation, including cell phones, towers, wi-fi and smart meters, we expect that this is just the beginning of a widespread backlash against wireless technology,” he said.

W.H.O. Report: Cell phone radiation can cause cancer

(CNN) — Radiation from cell phones, WiFi, cordless phones, and baby monitors can possibly cause cancer, according to the World Health Organization. The agency now lists cell phone use in the same “carcinogenic hazard” category as lead, engine exhaust and chloroform.

The type of radiation coming out of a cell phone is called non-ionizing. It is not like an X-ray, but more like a very low-powered microwave oven.

“What microwave radiation does in most simplistic terms is similar to what happens to food in microwaves, essentially cooking the brain,” Black said. “So in addition to leading to a development of cancer and tumors, there could be a whole host of other effects like cognitive memory function, since the memory temporal lobes are where we hold our cell phones.”

New study: direct link to 4,924 cancer deaths from cellular antennas radiation

The study established a direct link between cancer deaths in Belo Horizonte, the third largest city, with the antennae of the mobile telephone network, reported in Science Hoje site, the news portal of the Brazilian Society for Progress Science (Sociedad Brasileña para el Progreso de la Ciencia.)

According to the study, more than 80 percent of people who die in Belo Horizonte by specific types of cancer live less than 500 meters away from the 300 identified cell phone antennas in the city.

Scientists found between 1996 and 2006 died in Belo Horizonte a total of 4924 victims of cancer types that may be caused by electromagnetic radiation, such as tumors in the prostate, breast, lung, kidneys and liver.

It’s official now: Cell phone radiation may be killing you

Kumar, who has done extensive research on cell phone radiation and its
effects warns:

- A 400% increase in the risk of brain cancer among for teenagers using cell phones. Children are more vulnerable to cell phone radiation. The younger the child, the deeper is the penetration of electromagnetic radiation as children’s skulls are thinner.

- Frequent use of mobile phones can also damage the visual system in many ways. Researchers are finding a 360 % increase in cancers of the eye nearest the usual placement of a user’s cell phone.

- Excessive use of mobile phones can also cause cancer in anyone. Use of cell phones for more than 30 minutes per day for 10 years increases the risk of brain cancer and acoustic neuroma.

- Cell phone radiation causes irreversible damage to male fertility. Studies have found 30% lower sperm count in intensive users of mobile phones.

The Damaging Effects of Electropollution

This article provides an unusual overview of information usually not published for the general public on this issue. including the history of EMF developed by our military, how other countries are beginning to protect their citizens, and the health effects now proven by research. This also lists references and links to research sources, and medical resources.]

[Regarding the current FCC safety standards] Devra Davis explains: “They are based on the imaginary SAM, the Standard Anthropomorphic Man based on military recruits of 1989: six foot two tall, about 200 lbs, and never exposed to a cell phone. The subsequently constructed safety standards date to 1962 when nobody knew the difference between heat-producing radiation and microwave radiation, and cell phones did not exist.”
