“The environmental changes in the last 20 years have seen increases in the human environment of petro-chemicals — air transport, quadrupling of motor vehicles, insecticides and rises in background electro-magnetic field, and so on,” Pritchard said.
The Federal safety standards for wireless communications were designed to protect humans from the heating, or thermal, risks caused by exposure to microwave radiation. However, thousands of peer-reviewed studies have found bio-effects from exposure to low intensity, non-thermal levels of microwave radiation. Moreover, three independent, case-control studies have found a two-fold increased risk of brain cancer among adults who have used cell phones for ten or more years. And one study found a three-fold risk of brain cancer after 25 years of cell phone and cordless phone use.
This is consistent with the increasing use of cordless phones as well as cell phones by the population. Hardell's case-control research on mobile phone use and brain cancer suggests that cordless phone use may be as harmful as cell phone use, and that tumors are more likely to occur in the frontal and temporal lobes than in other parts of the brain.
TV and video game use correlates with increased obesity (Tremblay 2005). Children who are allowed a device in their bedrooms have 30% increased incidence of obesity Technology overuse is implicated as a causal factor in rising rates of child depression, anxiety, attachment disorder, attention deficit, autism, bipolar disorder, psychosis and problematic child behavior
It sprung from a further analysis of data from one of the biggest studies carried out into the risk that the radiation causes cancer, headed by Professor Lennart Hardell of the University Hospital in Orebro, Sweden. Professor Hardell told the conference – held at the Royal Society by the Radiation Research Trust – that "people who started mobile phone use before the age of 20" had more than five-fold increase in glioma", a cancer of the glial cells that support the central nervous system. The extra risk to young people of contracting the disease from using the cordless phone found in many homes was almost as great, at more than four times higher.
34 Papers finding adverse biological effects or damage to health from Wi-Fi signals, Wi-Fi-enabled devices or Wi-Fi frequencies (2.4 or 5 GHz)
Papers listed are only those where exposures were 16V/m or below. Someone using a Wi-Fi-enabled tablet computer can be exposed to electromagnetic fields up to 16V/m
The research, to be published in the Environmental Health Journal this week, also found high users of cordless phones more commonly experienced tinnitus, or ringing in their ears. "The highest category of use - over half an hour a day - in many studies has shown an increased risk of glioma, a malignant [brain or spine] tumour that is often fatal. Several studies have also shown an increased risk of acoustic neuroma - a little tumour on the nerve between the ear and the brain."
The principal author of the 2011 World Health Organization IARC Monograph on the carcinogenicity of radiofrequency radiation explains the 2B classification of RFR as applicable to all form of RFR exposures, including Smart Meters and Wi-Fi: "So the classification 2B, possibly carcinogenic, holds for all types of radiation within the radiofrequency part of the electromagnetic spectrum, including the radiation emitted by base-station antennas, radio/TV towers, radar, Wi-Fi, smart meters, etc.
